Chama Weather
brings four seasons to the mountains. The town is located in the San Juan Mountains of Northern New Mexico at the 7800-foot level, and is bordered by three wilderness areas. Warm summers and cold winters are the norm. Summer highs range in the 70s and 80s with lows in the 40s – even in July and August. Cold evening temperatures in the fall bring beautiful color to the mountains and in winter the area is blanketed with snow. The average temperature in January is 21 degrees and it can often get down into the single digits at night during winter. The average snowfall is 103 inches. Even so – Chama enjoys 300 days of sunshine per year.
