Chama New Mexico
has exciting, one-of-a-kind special events. The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad kicks off the summer season with their opening day ceremony usually held Memorial Day weekend. The railroad also offers other special events all summer long, such as “Schools Out Discounts” for fifty percent off fares for students, their triple-header train ride, moonlight train ride and a special fall “Photo Special.” The railroad holds their closing day ceremonies in mid-October. Every month, June – September, join the Elkhorn Chuckwagon Dinner Shows, complete with cowboy poetry readings, music and more. An exciting Fourth of July celebration is held in the town of Chama each year, with an arts and crafts fair, festive parade and a spectacular fireworks display at dusk. In the month of August are Chama Days, which includes a rodeo and softball tournament, parade and Chama Valley Rodeo Queen Contest. Fall brings other special events, such as the Harvest Festival Arts & Crafts Show in September and in December “Ye Ole Train Yard Christmas Celebration,” and the Chama Christmas Lights Contest. Listed below are a few other special events found in the area, not mentioned above.
Chama Music Festival
For most of July, Chama features a festival that includes almost every type of music from chamber groups to jug bands, gospel, and cabaret performances. The festival is held at the Chama Valley Community Center and, in the past, has included a scenic mountain concert in Osier, with a train ride included.
City Slickers Adventure
This unique tour combines travel on horseback, a wagon ride, camping and a return train ride to and from the town of Osier. The "City Slickers Package" involves taking the train to the top of the mountain, where you are met by cowboys who conduct the trail ride or give you a wagon ride to a camp on a wide mountain meadow. There are private tents and several buildings at the site, including a dining hall – however, evening meals are cooked around a campfire. The days are spent hiking, fishing, or just relaxing. Two nights are spent at camp before returning to Osier.

Other annual events include the Chama Chili Ski Classic on President's Day weekend and the Snowball Balloon Rally in February.
